Nelder Grove

Saturday we went up to Nelder Grove to visit it and spend the day with our friends the Negleys who are also camp hosts there. Since Nelder Grove is in the mountains, the temperature was in the 70s which was very nice! After we arrived, Brenda Negley gave us a tour around the campsite and then we started off for the Bull Buck tree.

The Mountain Lady Slipper.....past it's blooming stage.

An Indian arrowhead made out of Obsidian.

This is all that remains of Big Ed........a mature Sequoia.

A Sequoia cone.

I think it's neat how you can see the new growth!

All the kids :)

Our family (minus Chase who came later).

Our aspiring cellist who found two sticks :)

The Bull Buck tree which is 246 feet tall and has a ground-level circumference of 100 feet.

The little girls at the base.

The Undercut tree. Doesn't it look like a face?

Back at the campsite, Justus got a fire going and the ladies prepared dinner. After a yummy meal, we sat around the campfire talking while the guys went out on a bike ride. After some card games and the guy's return, we roasted marshmallows and ate s'mores. (No pictures were taken because of the attachment of the marshmallows to everything :)) Many laughs were had over the electric marshmallow roaster that was quickly abandoned because it spun the marshmallow right off the prong!

After the s'mores were enjoyed, we spent the rest of the evening swapping campfire games. Shortly after it was time to go, and soon we arrived home from a very pleasant day!
